Timeline is write but the equality is not there. And I just read that Virginia conservatives are fighting it.

And nurses have few positions that offer the pension benefits. Yep — I had a 401 K but not until I reached 50 — not long enough to gather any good amount. Certainly nothing like my former teacher husband has in his pension plan. Nurses were not organized like teachers and the ANA did little about that.

Benefits also sucked when I started in 1968. You should read my article about giving birth fifty years ago in the hospital for which I worked. The belief was nurses mostly females to be supported by their husbands.

I’m glad you’re living comfortabley— so many people aren’t. And it’s difficult to save on one salary, which was my life for more than 30 years. It wasn’t that long ago I was offered a 25 cent an hour raise to join an Alzheimer’s facility as a supervisor.

I also have articles under “Nurses Notes” titles about working in hospital in the 1960s. I deserved more than the $4/hour I started on and better benefits — including a pension plan.

And read the books I mentioned…let me know what you think.
