The year of my discontent.
Authors note. There was a time when I posted on medium about twice a week. but not for the last year. The following Medium article is about that year.
It started a year ago in July of 2021. I had to have minor foot surgery — -which was fine. However, I was given a walking boot that gave me ulcerations on my foot. And because I have diabetes type 2, my podiatrist who did the original surgery, decided to treat the ulcerations. Part of that treatment included me doing daily redressings. Which I was happy to do.
In the meantime what been diagnosed a sciatica turned out to be pain caused by a large clot in my right femoral artery. I spent my birthday in surgery having the clot removed. I went home after a week with a dressing over my groin incision which opened the next day, necessitating a trip to the ER and a return home with a wound vac, that I had to carry around. Then my podiatrist felt I should have a large walking boot and my cardiologist put me on a diuretic. Picture the old woman, carrying the wound vac, hobbling to the bathroom frequently.
As the ulcers started to clear the podiatrist decided to put on an Unna boot, impregnated with healing medicine. The boot is changed twice a week. The home care nurse put it on one Friday. Unfortunately, two days later my daughter had to cut most of it off. My leg had swollen. I had a lot of pain. The next…
