The Silver Linings to the Corvid-19 Cloud

And, no, I’m not drunk…

I’m not usually a Pollyanna. I’m really a cranky crone, former RN, retired after 45 years of nursing people and then a desk. So for me to say there are silver linings to this freakin’ public health mess is very unusual — but here goes:

#1. The US finally takes public health and the possibility of pandemics seriously.

#2. The US will work with — WITH other nations and the WHO who (pun intended) just may know more than we do.

#3. The US will finally decide that its social safety net has gaping holes and passes laws for:

a. National Health Insurance

b. Child Care

c. Paid sick leave for all workers

#4. Families who have to spend time together because businesses have shut down and schools have closed will get to know each other and not just pass like ships in the night (or at breakfast). They will come to understand that the most importnt thing is family — immediate or extended.

#5. Remote working or working from home will become a real thing and not just during emergencies.

#6. Americans will realize they don’t need to “shop ’til they drop.”
