Superbowl Party— Hospital Style

No, it wasn’t this good Photo by Elevate on Unsplash

The man I loved was in the hospital with cardiac problems.

He would soon be on a heart transplant list. But we didn’t know it on that Superbowl Sunday.

He was a big burly guy who enjoyed beer and football — and always watched “The Big Game’ — no matter who was playing. And he wanted to watch this one even if it was from his hospital room.

He also loved food. He was the type who’d eat a hoagie while waiting for the pizza.

I was determined to make it as “nomal” as possible for him. Being an RN I was well aware of his dietary restrictions, so I contacted his cardiologist and was given the okay.

The big day came and I entered his hospital room with nonalcoholic beer and salt-free chips.

I have no idea who won but it was the best Superbowl party ever.

Unfortunately, it was his last.
