Shannon Ashley Has No Life and Neither Do I,
But for very different reasons….
Shannon’s recent article about having no life was like a bell being struck inside my head. I understand, Shannon, I understand but for very different reasons.
I’m almost forty years older than you and my daughter is pushing fifty so, I don’t have the very same problems. Let me tell you why I understand.
Seven years ago, at 64, I remarried (after being single for almost thirty years). He was 70. We’d “been together” (sounds better than dating when you’re oldsters) for several years and had decided we were right for each other.
And then retirement and marriage…
After we married and I moved into HIS home (I’d lived in an apartment), I discovered some of his first wife’s things still in the dresser drawers that were to be “mine.” She’d passed several years before we met and I wasn’t jealous but I was upset — I just thought someone should have thought that I would be coming with more than my laptop and a suitcase. He had cleared out a closet for the new wife — nice thought.
We had a brief honeymoon in a mountain town not far away and then a longer “family honeymoon” with son-in-law, daughter, and grandson. Okay. I knew them and liked them but I had to have had some hint about how my life would be.
