I Have a Terrible Boss, Loading Me Up with Work!

And that boss is me….

I know when this started and I know why; I just don’t know how to stop it. I’m either all in — up to my eyebrows — or I’m napping, not doing anything. Right now it’s the former.

Lately I’ve been attending an online Zoom critique meeting and I have “the fire in the belly back” to write fiction and to submit my work. It’ been ten years since I’ve been this serious about my fiction.

After almost fifty years of writing with some minor successes, what stopped me?

Marriage stopped me.

Being a dedicated writer — dedicated to your craft and dedicated to doing it is a lot easier when you live alone. When I was working, I was up at 5 AM to write. When I lived alone, that bothered no one. I had a notebook of printed out requests for submissions, organized by month. My time was my own — so I used it writing — and reading. I was in a writers group near my home that was active, meeting monthly with a large conference each year. The Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group.

I was sure that when I retired I had..well... I would be able to write every day, whenever I wanted — as long as I wanted and I could continue my organization the way I had…well… organized it.
