An Old Woman with PTSD — ?
That doesn’t sound right, now does it?
Not everyone with PTSD survived a war in the Armed Forces— some of us survived a war on ourselves as we were growing up. And that war continues inside us.
I’m one of those people. I was diagnosed with PTSD after a psychiatrist reviewed my childhood history of night terrors that caused my father to beat me with his belt.
There is another disorder: Child Abuse Syndrome (CAS)that is just becoming recognized as maybe the cause of adult Depression and other mental illnesses. (I think about all the children taken from their parents and put in detention centers and wonder about the price we’ll be paying in the future.)
The Open Neurology Journal, an online journal, published on June 30, 2016 an article about CAS:
A number of children and adolescents experience stressful events during their life spans, which can affect them both physically and emotionally. Their reactions to these events are usually time-limited, as most of these children recover without further problems.
Most move on to adulthood without problems, but some are given the gift of Depression, constant anxiety, doubts of their own worth, and PTSD.
